Selection Process

The Prescott Area Leadership program is designed for individuals with leadership qualities who are committed to personal involvement in shaping the quality of life and future of the community. Class recruiting occurs between February and May each year. Our selection committee will interview applicants and choose the participants. The class size is limited to 20 members.

Eligibility

Candidacy is open to all individuals regardless of gender, race, creed or religion. Candidates must have lived in central Yavapai County for at least one year.

Tuition

The tuition for the Prescott Area Leadership program is a one-time fee of $425 for the two-year program.  Financial arrangements and scholarships are available.  The tuition is due upon selection, unless arrangements have been made.  Tuition includes the cost of the retreat, course materials and commencement exercise.

Commitment

The time commitment involved with the Prescott Area Leadership program is considerable.  Participants work together over the course of their first year of the program exploring critical community issues and acquiring leadership skills.  The program begins with a mandatory two-day retreat in August, which includes an overnight stay.  There are nine Issue Days, held once a month, beginning in September and concluding in  June.  The December Skills Day is for skill enhancement and a mid-year retreat.  Issue Days are held on the third Friday of the month except for December and June.  Program hours for the Issue Days are typically 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  In addition, each participant must recognize the time required for six mandatory field trips, shadowing exercise aqnd program support activities.  During the second year, participants step into leadership positions within the program by guiding members of the next class through their program experience.  The commitment also includes the folowing options:  participation in the Central Yavapai Institute (CYI), issue day, field trip, serving on a committee or on the Board of Directors and a mandatory oral and written presentation.  If you believe you are unable to make this time commitment, it may be in your best interest to apply another time.

Applications & More Information

The application is the first in a two-step selection process.  Following a review of the applications, candidates would be contacted to schedule an interview.  Applications are available at area Chambers of Commerce and the three local public libraries.
