PRESCOTT AREA LEADERSHIP is focused on the development of effective leaders: individuals who have compassion for others, a commitment to selfless service, a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and the leadership skills and personal qualities that engender respect and trust.
Founded in 1990 by Dr. Ron Barnes, P.A.L. has graduated hundreds of effective leaders who are serving our communities.
In addition to our adult leadership program, we are very proud of our youth leadership program, Prescott Area Youth Leadership Academy (PAYL). The mission of PAYL is to help motivated high school juniors and seniors build a foundation for developing effective leadership skills in a relaxed atmosphere. They learn leadership basics like self-understanding, character building, conflict resolution and much more. They also have the opportunity to meet and interact with top leaders in our communities.
In the fall of 2010 Prescott Area Leadership was instrumental in starting the Hungry Kids Project in Prescott. Each week volunteers come together to pack weekend meals for those kids who have been identified by school officials as needing assistance. We now serve not only PUSD, but Chino Valley and the Dewey-Humboldt School Districts, feeding close to 400 kids each weekend.
The YGarden at the Prescott YMCA was started 5 years ago as a collaboration between Prescott Area Leadership and the Prescott YMCA. Today the garden includes 15 privately sponsored plots, 15 plots dedicated to community yield, and 3 plots for community education including plots for children and flowers. Produce from community yield plots is distributed to local charities dedicated to serving vulnerable populations in our community. Last year over 2,000 pounds of fresh produce was distributed to help fight hunger in our community. The garden also provides avid gardeners a safe and convenient location to grow their own produce.
We are proud that Prescott Area Leadership is continuously giving back to our communities through the development of leaders that dedicate themselves to the service of others. P.A.L. is a volunteer, 501(c)3 organization. There are no paid positions. The generous contributions from our Alumni and community members are greatly appreciated and allow us to continue this important work. All donated funds are used for student scholarships.
